Tourism / Discovery

Welcome to Saint-Léon sur Vézère, a timeless village in the heart of the Dordogne between Montignac and Les Eyzies. Nestling in a loop of the River Vézère, this small village, listed as one of the Most Beautiful Villages in France, will win you over with its authenticity. As the seasons change, you'll discover Saint-Léon sur Vézère in all its different colours, a delight for nature lovers. You can stroll through the narrow streets or along the water's edge, explore the town's heritage, enjoy the shops, savour the local cuisine and appreciate the hospitality of the Périgord region. The architecture is typical of the medieval villages of the Périgord Noir, and you'll be charmed by its historic heritage, with its coyote roofs, warm blonde stones and narrow streets (known as couredous). One of the jewels in Saint-Léon sur Vézère's crown is undoubtedly its 12th-century Romanesque church. Don't miss the 16th-century Château de Clérans, a true testament to Gothic art, which stands in the middle of the village. Unfortunately, it is privately owned and cannot be visited, but you can admire its medieval refinement with its beautiful polygonal stair tower, corner turrets and several dormer pediments. The 14th-century Manoir de la Salle, with its square keep and machicolated tower, is also well worth a visit. Saint-Léon sur Vézère's appeal also lies in its natural setting on the banks of the Vézère. Whether you prefer to stroll along the water's edge, go mountain biking or canoeing, or go hiking... there's something for everyone in this corner of unspoilt nature. For lovers of hiking and mountain biking, don't miss the Rando Silex, held every year at the end of September/beginning of October. Bringing together almost 1,000 participants, this is a sporting and nature event not to be missed in the Dordogne. Finally, for a more unusual experience, head to Le Conquil, an authentic troglodyte natural site that combines dinosaurs and accrobranche! Saint-Léon sur Vézère is a magnificent base for visiting the splendours of the Dordogne and Périgord Noir. There are many "Most Beautiful Villages in France" to discover, including Coly Saint-Amand and its fortified church. With its 15 UNESCO World Heritage sites, the Vézère valley is regarded as the valley of prehistory. Don't miss the emblematic Lascaux cave at Montignac. Between visits to castles and troglodyte sites, indulge in the gentle Perigordian way of life and sample the local specialities over a good meal.
