Charleville-Mézières is a gem of architecture and history. The Place Ducale, a square inspired by the parisian Place des Vosges, is an absolute must of this destination labellised « Patrimoine du XXème siècle » (20th century heritage). Its unique architecture combines pink bricks, ochre stones and blue slate.
Charleville is also a city turned towards nature. Its walking and cycling path will take you along the Meuse! You can try a boat trip on the river as well. A torchlight tour is another way of getting to know the city. Organised all year round by the tourist office, a guide will accompany you through the streets, explaining to you the local history of this Ardennes destination.
The town is considered the capital of puppetry. Discover this famous activity by going to the Grand Marionnettiste near the Place Ducale and appreciate the monumental clock getting animated every hour from 10 am to 9 pm. The show tells the legends of the Four Aymon Sons.
Also, the Ardennes museum shows you all the puppeteer’s secrets by revealing the mechanisms behind the scenes. The museum is also devoted to archeology, history, art and traditions.
