Tourism / Discovery
In the heart of the Quercy Blanc, Castelnau-Montratier is halfway between Cahors and Mautauban.
The two towns of Castelnau-Montratier and Sainte-Alauzie (merged in 2017) have the particularity of having 11 churches. The most outstanding is definitely the church of Saint-Martin, located in the town center of Castelnau and dating from the 19th century. It has a singular Byzantine architecture and overlooks the Lupte Valley from its rocky promontory.
Listed as a National Heritage Site since 1979, the Boisse mill is a must-see in the region. Located 7 km from the campsite, near Sainte-Alauzie, it is the typical reference for mills in the Quercy region. Contact the tourist office for a visit or animation. Four times a year, the association managing the mill organises milling demonstrations followed by guided tours.
The variety of the surrounding landscapes also shows the gastronomic richness of the region: the vineyards of the Quercy slopes (PDO), the farming valleys where melons, cereals and tobacco are grown, the fields of sunflowers and lavender… It looks like Provence!
The « plateaux et moulins » trail (14,4 km) invites you to wander through valleys and hills to admire the mills, churches and many unspoilt landscapes.
