Tourism / Discovery
Albas is located 20 km west of Cahors and follows the Lot on its left bank. On its rocky hill, this charming destination - which rises 50m above the Lot - is nicknamed "Albas la jolie". Discover its narrow streets and the remains of the fortified citadel built during the Middle Ages. Its castle was the favourite residence of the bishops of Cahors. Today it is home to the town hall and the church of Saint-Etienne.
At the foot of the citadel, a pontoon allows you to launch canoes and fishing boats to enjoy one of the most abundant fish spots in the whole Lot valley. Not so long ago, Albas was also a harbour which enabled shipments of Cahors wine to reach Bordeaux. This port is now part of the village's heritage.
The Tuscan garden is located on one of the terraces overlooking the Lot and is well worth a visit. Finally, stop in front of the old houses on the village square and in particular the Maison du Pal, now a historical museum revealing the village's past.
There is no shortage of hiking in Albas. Discover the landscapes by following the many signposted trails. (Circuit des Payrols, Le Roc Pounchut, Circuit des Pals...).
