Tourism / Discovery
Between Saint-Lô (50 km to the south) and Cherbourg (36 km to the north), the town of Picauville was created in 2016 from the merger of 5 communes in the heart of the Cotentin marshes.
In this pretty town of Normandy, characterised by its stone houses, several monuments are listed as National Heritage sites. Take a look at the Château de l'Isle Marie, a former fortress built in the 17th century. 2.5 km from the motorhome stopover is the church of Saint-Candice, built in the 13th century and also one of the major sites in this destination. 23 km away, Lessay Abbey is world-famous for its distinctive architecture. Its innovative methods and the purity of its lines are the hallmarks of a majestic ensemble that is much appreciated by visitors.
The Baie des Veys offers a nature outing just 22 km from the campsite, where all the waters that flow through the Cotentin and Bessin marshes end. With its 4,000 hectares, this is the largest estuary between the Col du Cotentin and the Baie de Seine.
It is a very important ecological passage route for wildlife. You can for instance spot the largest colony of harbour seals in France! This is also a major route where over 10,000 birds stop off every year during their migration. Come and enjoy the spectacle offered by this nationally important site from the bird observation posts.
