Tourism / Discovery
Auberive is located 75 kilometers north of Dijon, in the Forêts National Park.
The town is first and foremost known for its Cisterian abbey, founded on the Aube river in 1135. Its history is so rich that many personalities have visited it throughout the years. The abbey peaked in the 13th century with 11 barns, 4 townhouses, 14 mills, 13 ponds, an iron mine, a salt mine and vineyards. Over the centuries, it was rebuilt, became a factory, a holiday resort and then a prison, before finally becoming a monastery again in the 20th century. Today, you can visit the abbey all year long. A contemporary art centre with a variety of exhibitions is also open from June to September.
Enjoy this exceptional forest landscape. Auberive is a member of the Forêts National Park, which was created in 2019. Streams, marshes, springs, rivers and other natural sites share this vast, unspoiled site. Home to a great biodiversity, appreciate the rare plant species and remarkable animals such as the European wildcat or the black stork, emblem of the national park.
Auberive is also crossed by the GR7, which links the Ballon d’Alsace (a Vosges peak) to Andorra la Vella and passes through the forest. Whether on foot or by bike, enjoy these beautiful outings.
Spend a few hours in Langres (27 kilometers), listed as one of the « Plus Beaux Détours de France ». This fortress takes you back in time with its architectural treasures. The birthplace of Denis Diderot, one of the greatest philosophers of the Age of Enlightenment, is honoured each year with the Philosophical meetings.
