Tourism / Discovery
Between Tours and Bourges, Villefranche-sur-Cher is at the heart of many heritage sites and tourist attractions: the medieval town of Mennetou-sur-Cher (8 km), the Museum of Sologne in Romorantin (8 km), the castle of Selles-sur-Cher (18 km), the Beauval zoo (32 km) and many more.
Peaceful and surrounded by greenery, the commune is on the Cher à Vélo cycle route, a very pleasant way to explore the surrounding area. From May to October, you can even enjoy yourself on the banks of the Cher when the guinguette is open!
Visit the church of Sainte Marie-Madeleine, built by the Hospitallers at the end of the 12th century and now listed as a National Heritage site. Built in the Romanesque style, it owes its name to the patron saint of the parish. Inside, you can admire the stained glass windows at the back of the choir and the statue of Saint Martha, much venerated in the 19th century.
Just 8 km from Villefranche, discover the capital of Sologne: Romorantin. The Baltan site, to the east of the town, is a 1.3 km nature trail with information panels to help you explore the regional flora and fauna: ponds, rivers, forests, moors and meadows. The Mares educational trail is also an invigorating place to take a stroll.
