Located around 65 km south of Tours, Montrésor is an architectural and natural gem.
A stroll through the heart of the village will give you a change of scene, with white tuffeau stone and half-timbered houses alongside semi-troglodytic dwellings. The medieval atmosphere is ideal for exploring the monuments, such as the magnificent castle of Montrésor, which houses 1,000 years of art and history. Overlooking the Indrois valley, it welcomes visitors from February to November, as well as during the Christmas holidays. The panoramic view over Loches and Montrésor and the small valleys winding through the forests is absolutely breathtaking. Inside the ramparts of the fortress, stroll through the romantic garden and enjoy the beauty of its nature and its two remarkable statues.
The Halle des Cardeux is another site you must see while staying in Montrésor. Built in the 17th century, it is now listed as a National Heritage site. Formerly used as a textile centre until the 19th century, it is now turned into a market every Saturday morning. Visit the 11th-century church of Saint-Jean-Baptiste, as well as the wash house and the medieval bridge, which add much to the ancient atmosphere of the destination.
Besides its medieval character, the countryside and forest of Montrésor also justify its classification as one of the "Most Beautiful Villages of France". Below, the river reflects the castle and houses of the village.
The “Chemin des légendes” is a pleasant 8.5 km trail leading to the lake at Chemillé-sur-Indrois. Other footpaths take you through beautiful countryside and vineyards, including a section of the GR46 with impressive views over the valley.
Just 19 km away, discover the Royal City of Loches and its charming cobbled streets. The neighbouring town invites you to explore its monuments: keep, castle, Saint-Ours collegiate church, Lansyer museum and many more.
