Tourism / Discovery
Josselin, a medieval city located 50 km north of Vannes, is a magnificent destination built on a rocky spur overlooking the Oust river. Its millennia-old history has significantly shaped Brittany's heritage.
The historic neighbourhood features narrow cobbled streets and colorful half-timbered houses that lend a special charm to your strolls. The oldest house dates back to 1538 and, like the others, transports you to a romantic and epic era. Learn all the secrets of this city by following the interpretation trail that describes its architecture and leads you to the Sainte-Croix district. Completely renovated, it is as ancient as the castle and consists of charming half-timbered houses and a chapel of the same name.
The Castle of Josselin is one of the most beautiful in the region! It offers a true journey through time with its medieval towers and its museum of dolls and toys. In total, nearly 50,000 pieces from around the world are displayed in the gallery. French gardens, English park, and a rose garden add to the refinement of this prestigious monument.
Legend has it that in the 9th century, a peasant discovered a statue with exceptional healing properties. It was later kept in the grand Basilica of Notre-Dame du Roncier before being destroyed during the Revolution. The Basilica quickly became a pilgrimage site for the sick seeking healing. It dominates the heart of the city with its dimensions and Gothic style. The equally impressive interior houses numerous treasures: stained glass windows, a grand organ, and multiple statues...
Josselin is an important stop on the route of the Dukes of Brittany, highlighted by its numerous tourist labels: "Petite Cité de Caractère", "Cité Fluviale", "Villes et Villages Fleuris", "Villages-Étapes", and "Station Verte". These labels showcase both the historical beauty and natural splendor of the town.
The campsite provides direct access to the towpath along the Oust river, winding through a lush green environment. For a fun and pleasant experience, you can embark on a canoe ride for a lovely journey on the river. If you prefer to stay on land, the Bois d'Amour is an exceptional and peaceful garden for walking. The "Au fil de l'eau" itinerary within this green space will introduce you to the fauna and flora through various modules and audio stations. Playgrounds, zip lines, and sports equipment will also entertain both children and adults.
