Tourism / Discovery
L'Aiguillon-sur-Mer is located a few kilometers north of La Rochelle, the city faces the Île de Ré. It is the southernmost seaside resort in the Vendée.
Between dunes, forests and the Marais Poitevin, this new municipality is based around the Lay river which flows into the Bay of Aiguillon. It is an ideal place for a large number of activities such as fishing, swimming, water sports, shellfish picking or simply walking along the Côte de Lumière. Five beaches stretch over 13 km, from the Grande Casse to the Pointe. Its maritime atmosphere and the large number of migratory bird species have earned the town the status of National Nature Reserve.
Thanks to a large network of walking and cycling paths, all the tourist sites are accessible on foot or by bike. For your walks, you can follow the Vélodyssée or the various footpaths such as the Sentier Maritime (5.4 km) or the Sentier Patrimoine (5.7 km). By taking the Rade d’Amour discovery trail, you will discover the oyster beds, one of the main activities for which the region is renowned.
An observatory will enable you to admire the flight of the marsh birds, the boats of the estuary and the pine forest.
