The town of Val-du-Layon, 25 km south of Angers, is the vestige of an important medieval past, right in the heart of the Anjou vineyards. Some bottles even date back more than a century and a half! The Vendée War, a significant battle during the French Revolution, arrived at the town's gates. The remains of the Château de Haute-Guerche, built between the 13th and 14th centuries, overlook the Loire Valley. The region is also at the centre of a large number of trails through countryside and rivers!
