Tourism / Discovery
At the gateway to the Hautes-Pyrénées department, stop off at Bours for a revitalising break off the beaten track. In the heart of the Adour valley and surrounded by nature, you enter a charming countryside, perfect for hiking and outdoor activities. Start with a beautiful walk around Lake Bazet, from where you can admire an exceptional panorama of the Pyrenees mountain range. In the fresh air and by the water, you can also take the "CaminAdour" hiking and cycling trail. Whether by bike, on foot or for a fishing session, this trail follows the towpath parallel to the Adour from Bazet to Soues (around 10 km).
Just next door to Bours, discover the rich heritage of the historic town of Tarbes. Explore the Massey garden, an oasis of exotic trees and varieties, which is also home to the International Hussars Museum. Don't miss the National Stud, the cradle of the Anglo-Arab breed, a listed historic monument created by Napoleon in 1806. Today, it is a living museum, where free events are organised in summer, as well as major equestrian shows during the Equestria festival.
While visiting other major sites in Tarbes, such as Villa Fould, the birthplace of Maréchal Foch or Notre-Dame-de-la-Sède cathedral, enjoy the sweet local way of life by strolling through the authentic markets and tasting the specialities.
