Tourism / Discovery

Located less than 20 km from Orange and 30 km north of Avignon, Codolet is a town with a warm atmosphere! As you stroll through its picturesque streets, visit the church of Saint-Michel, enthroned in the middle of the town. Although it was built in the 19th century, its history goes back further than that, as it was rebuilt according to the plans of the old church, which dated back to the 13th century. Codolet is a perfect town if you want to enjoy the summer heat of the region, while having water nearby. That's because it lies at the heart of two Natura 2000 sites, between the banks of the Rhône and Cèze rivers, offering you a pleasant stroll along the various towpaths. Lake Codolet is also open to bathing, so you can relax peacefully after your escapades. If you fancy a climb, head for the nearby towns of Orsan and Laudun l'Ardoise, just 6 km from the area, where the Massif de la Combe d'Enfer awaits. There are plenty of walks under the trees, many of which will give you a bird's eye view of the region, such as the Belvédère d'Orsan, the Col de Ventabren and the Passage du Loup. A number of chapel ruins can also be found in the landscape, perfect for taking a breather in the heart of a historic site! Get away from it all and visit some of France's most emblematic heritage sites. The city of Orange is known as "The City of Princes", thanks to its rich history. The ancient theatre has been the pride of the town for centuries, having been founded a century BC during the reign of Augustus, the first Roman Emperor. The Arc de Triomphe, also dating from Roman times, is one of the best preserved of its time. Both buildings are listed as UNESCO World Heritage Sites, reflecting their historical importance. You can also visit the recently renovated Cathédrale Notre-Dame-de-Nazareth, a Romanesque cathedral listed as a French historic monument. The city of Avignon is not to be outdone either. A large part of the city is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, notably for its historic centre, its bridge and its Gothic palace, which has earned it the nickname "City of the Popes". The city is clearly worth a visit for its unique historical and architectural heritage.
