Visit the village of Izeste, located less than 30 km south of Pau. This small Pyrenean village and its majestic landscapes will enchant you! As you stroll through, you will discover a peaceful village where the various reliefs of the Pyrenees are visible at every corner, particularly those of the Ossau Valley, with Izeste being the gateway to this natural reserve. First, you will notice the Saint-Etienne Church of Izeste. Part of the parishes of Notre Dame and Saint Michel d’Ossau, it is of Gothic style, dating back to the 13th century. Hiking enthusiasts, Izeste will win you over! Set off on the trails that make up the GRP called "Tour of the Ossau Valley," a loop of over 100 km with elevations ranging from 400 to 1800 meters. The gentle and moderate mountains make these trails enjoyable without being difficult to access. Several chasms and peaks await you in the forest of Izeste, offering walks that will reveal the full depth of the landscape. Just 2 km from the village, visit the village of Arudy. Rich in its industrial past with fur processing and marble extraction, it is now known for its museum showcasing the history of the Ossau region. It is located in the town's abbey dating back to the 17th century, listed as a historical monument. Here, you can find archaeological, paleontological, and geological collections from the Pyrenees National Park. Explore the Pyrenean massif by heading south, less than 20 km from the town. Stop at Castet to discover the blue waters of its lake nestled between two mounts. Finally, discover Laruns, a renowned ski resort and starting point for numerous hikes. Many viewpoints are waiting for you. Walk to the Séris waterfall, the Eaux-Chaudes cliff, or the Hourat gorges. You can also explore numerous lakes such as Lake Bious or Lake Roumassot.
