Tourism / Discovery
Located 30 km west of Mont-de-Marsan, Morcenx is right in the middle of the Arjuzanx Reserve, a natural area of over 2,670 hectares that has become the largest wintering ground for grey cranes in France. These mythical birds, mentioned in tales and legends from all over the world, usually make stopovers in the Landes region during their migration between northern Europe and the Iberian Peninsula. November to February are therefore the perfect months to observe the birds.
Listed as a Natura 2000 site, the Arjuzanx Reserve is both a protected area home to over 170 species of bird and a playground for young and old alike. Throughout the year, you can enjoy a wide range of activities on the dedicated 400 hectares: fishing, hiking and mountain biking, orienteering, water sports (boating and swimming), yoga, horse riding and bike hire.
The region of Morcenx is a great place for hiking! Many routes take you through natural and heritage sites: the ‘Sources’, the ‘Lavoirs’ route and the ‘Patrimoine’ are the most surprising and fascinating ones.
Bring back a tasty souvenir from your getaway in Morcenx-la-Nouvelle.
Here, pastis is not an alcoholic drink, but a traditional cake from the Landes. This compact, melting brioche, flavoured with vanilla, rum, aniseed or orange blossom, is a must!
