Area for camping-car of Le Chalard

Situated between Limoges, Périgueux and Brives-la-Gaillarde, the medieval town of Le Chalard welcomes you to the Périgord-Limousin Regional Park. Le Chalard is located on the ‘Route of Richard the Lionheart’, a tourist route south-west of the Haute-Vienne department. The route stretches from the Charente to the gateway to the Dordogne and Corrèze. Covering almost 200 km, it includes 23 sites such as castles, churches, and towns. Discover the church of Charlard, built in 1088 in a Romanesque style with massive blocks of carved granite. It has been listed as a National Heritage Site since 1910. Right next to the church, the monks’ cemetery is home to graves dating from the 12th and 15th centuries. Some of them display symbols representing the activities of the deceased: prior, weaver, blacksmith, etc. Take a stroll through the streets to discover the old stone buildings, including the ‘Maison des Anglais’, which has not undergone any major alterations since the 12th century. You will be able to admire some superb Gothic windows. Just 200 m from the stopover area, do not miss the ‘Maison de l’Or en Limousin’. The exhibition area shows how gold was mined from Gaulish times to the 20th century. Découvrez la campagne limousine en suivant le sentier des Aurières, randonnée pédestre de 5 km. Discover the Limousin countryside along the Aurières footpath, a 5 km hiking trail. You will pass typical houses in the town centre, St Geoffrey’s fountain, the wash house and enjoy panoramic views.
