Description
Green setting by the river
Tourism / Discovery
Located 20 km northwest of Périgueux and 10 km from Brantôme, Bourdeilles is a charming little village in the Green Périgord. In the middle of nature, the town has a rich architectural heritage composed, among others, of two castles listed as National Heritage Sites: the medieval castle of the 13th century and the Renaissance Palace of the 15th century.
The castle of Bourdeilles, open to the public, overlooks the Dronne river from its rocky spur. Its panoramic terrace and gardens offer a breathtaking view of the whole village! Observe the two buildings: the highest donjon in the Périgord (40 m) and the 13th century medieval fortress. During your visit, you will discover an impressive collection of furniture from France, Flanders, Italy and Spain.
The village can be explored mainly on foot.
From the campsite on the Dronne banks, appreciate the view of the village, the river, the castles and the church. Then cross the medieval bridge and its seven arches to immerse yourself in the village’s history. During your walk, you will see semi-troglodytic dwellings, the Maison du Sénéchal, the church of Saint-Pierre ès Liens, the Jardin du Curé and its cave (garden)… so many curiosities which contribute to Bourdeilles’ renown.
In summer, you can canoe or kayak on the Dronne.
Less than 5 km from the village, go to the Forge du Boulou, a climbing site but also a great place for hiking.
