Tourism / Discovery
Mareuil-sur-Arnon is a nice little village of the Cher, 35 km south-west from Bourges. The Arnon river is a massive pond of 33 hectares, running along the village and offers the anglers carnivorous and white fish. It is also ideal for relaxing, walking, bike riding or canoeing. Many areas have been developed to punctuate your walks: the Champ de Foire or the Promenade Rive Sud. You will find picnic tables, banks, barbecues, playgrounds, fitness trails, pétanque and tennis courts.
Many shops are available in Mareuil: bakery, grocery store, restaurant, mechanic, pharmacy, café.
Be curious and discover the Notre Dame de l’Assomption church, built during the 12th century and learn more about its history ! From the south side of the pond, you will notice some ruins and a tower that once belonged to the Mareuil castle. West of the lake, you will be surprised by the large 35m high chimney, the only vestige of an industrial past relating to the Mareuil forges for the iron ingots and cannon balls production.
Upstream from the lake, take the time to discover the Moulin de Bagnoux and its gates regulating the water flow. Downstream on the Nouan hill you will see a charming windmill which has been perfectly restored.
Visit Bourges, the capital of Berry, famous for its cathedral, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
