Tourism / Discovery
Penacova is a dynamic, family-friendly town in central Portugal, just 30 minutes from the city of Coimbra. The Mondego River runs through the town, providing plenty of opportunities for water-based activities.
The town is renowned for being the starting point for some of the country's best-known kayak trips. Head to the Carvoeira dams to explore the river and the flora that surrounds it. Mondego also offers some lovely sandy beaches where you can relax and soak up the sun, such as Reconquinho beach. Discover the beaches as you stroll along the towpath. And that's not all, as the area is also close to the N2 tourist route, which winds its way through the country, passing through places that are well worth a visit. Visit the stone windmills and the Mosteiro do Lorvão, a listed national monument.
The Emidio da Silva lookout offers an exceptional panoramic view over the whole of the municipality and the surrounding area. This unmissable view is a real postcard setting. Another exceptional vantage point for your eyes is the Pergola Paul Lino. Located in the centre, near the town hall, this balcony dates back to 1918 and offers a superb view of the river and the mountains that surround the town. It's an idyllic place, full of charm, to visit in any season.
