Tourism / Discovery

At the southern tip of the Yvonne department, at the gateway to the Morvan Regional Park, discover the charming, green village of Saint-Père, only 2 km from Vézelay. Listed as one of the ‘Most Beautiful Villages of France’, Vézelay is home to the famous Basilica of Sainte-Marie-Madeleine. Saint-Père, through which the river Cure flows (which also passes just a few metres from the campsite), is a pleasant place to visit on foot. Stroll through the narrow streets lined with old stone houses. Discover some well-preserved witnesses to history, such as cellars, wash-houses and wells. A true gem of Burgundian Gothic art, the church of Notre-Dame de Saint-Père is well worth a visit. Just 1,5 km south of the village, explore the Fontaines Salées archaeological site. The outdoor remains and the visitor centre just opposite shows visitors the results of the excavations and the main features of the human societies that lived here from the Neolithic period to Antiquity. Over 4,300 years of history are retraced here. Set 2 km from Saint-Père, the next stop on your tour is Vézelay, one of the ‘Most Beautiful Villages of France’. With its majestic and imposing Basilica of Sainte-Marie-Madeleine, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it is also an important stopover on the pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela. Discover its narrow streets and heritage sites, as seen in the cult movie La Grande Vadrouille (Don’t Look Now… We’re Being Shot At!) starring Louis de Funès and Bourvil.
