Tourism / Discovery
Between the Vosges and Jura mountains, around 15 kilometres south of Montbéliard and only a few kilometres from the German border, enjoy a comfortable riverside campsite in the peaceful town of Mandeure.
Visit the Roman theatre of Mandeure (National Heritage Site), less than 2 kilometres from the campsite. It was one of the largest theatres in Gaul, with a capacity of up to 18,000 spectators! Its sets were comparable to the greatest Roman theatres. Admission is free all year round.
Starting from the theatre, follow the hiking trail to the lookout point of Mandeure and enjoy a panoramic view over the Doubs valley, with an orientation table, playground and picnic tables. The walk is 9 kilometres long, takes about 3h15 and has a good elevation gain.
You can easily reach Montbéliard from Mandeure by public transport or by bike. Visit the City of Princes and its rich, colourful heritage. The Castle of the Dukes of Württemberg, the Temple of Saint-Martin and the Church of Saint-Maimboeuf are all worth a visit. For a walk in the countryside, head for the Près-la-Rose park between the Rhône-Rhine canal and the Allan river.
