Tourism / Discovery
About fifteen kilometers from Montélimar, La Bégude-de-Mazenc is located at the gateway to the Dieulefit-Bourdeaux region, on the Lyon-Marseille alternative route.
This modern town is at the foot of the medieval village of Châteauneuf-sur-Mazenc. The pretty cobbled streets and the belfry dating from the 15th century offer a breathtaking view of the Valdaine valley.
In town, enjoy the park and its pond appreciated by swans. This green setting will please everyone and gives an insight of the Emile Loubet castle. The former French President (1899-1906) has made it his summer residence. Every year, the park hosts the « Foire Verte », an event gathering local nursery owners and horticulturists.
From the old town, appreciate a one-hour walk (one hour) through a pine forest to reach Mount Carmel and its 13th century chapel.
The Drôme Provençale is made up of authentic villages nestled in a lush environment of forests, rocks, cliffs and peaks. For your groceries, go to one of the many typical Provençal markets of the Dieulefit-Bourdeaux region: the one in La Bégude-de-Mazenc is held every Tuesday on Place Emile Loubet.
Within a 10 km radius, Poët-Laval (« Most Beautiful Village of France ») and Manas (« Botanical Village », best visited in spring) offer incredible walks. The plains of Eyzahut and the hiking trails to the "trou du furet" will delight you.
Another curiosity: « La pierre sanglante » and its many legends in Roynac.
