Surrounded by oak and chestnut trees, Laguépie is a charming little village situated near the Aveyron gorges. Here, the two rivers Viaur and Aveyron meet and make this « Station Vete » a peninsula. Numerous walks along the water await you, where you won’t miss the remains of the Château Saint-Martin-Laguépie (Lou Viel Castel) overlooking the Viaur valley. Visits are free from mid-July to the end of August. It houses some superb architectural remains and offers a great view of the surroundings.
In July and August, a swimming area (Blue Flag beach - free access) is set up on the river. This is a perfect opportunity to spend a relaxing time by the water, strolling in front of the arcades and ruins of the castle. For fishermen, the river also abounds in beautiful species.
Discover the majestic Averyon gorges, less than 15 kilometers from the campsite! From Saint-Antonin-Noble-Val, the river can be descended in a canoe-kayak in 7 kilometers. There are many beaches along the way where you can take a break or have a picnic. This jewel of unspoilt nature is also accessible on foot or by mountain bike by following the hiking trails. Take the time to admire the high cliffs reflected in the river.
Around Laguépie, other picturesque villages are worth a stop: Caylus and the Maison des Loups (House of Wolves), Varen and its Doyenné, a marvel of Romanesque art, Najac (a fine example of a bastide)…
