Less than 40 km from the Ville Rose (The Pink City), L'Isle-Jourdain is located in the Gascogne Toulousaine region.
This flowery town is first and foremost a heritage site, home to a large number of monuments, starting with the Pont Tourné, at the foot of the campsite. Dating back to 1217, it is the town's oldest architectural feature. This bridge has enabled several personalities to cross the river Save, including Henri IV and Louis XIV.
The Marquis de Panat's château was inspired by medieval architecture. This castle is privately owned and can be admired from the outside as you stroll through its grounds.
Housed in the former corn exchange, the Musée Européen d'Art Campanaire (European Museum of Bell Craftsmanship) boasts a unique collection of bells, carillons, jewellery and other sound objects from all five continents, some dating back almost 4,000 years. Among other things, you will have the opportunity to see the Carillon de la Bastille: the monumental clock of the royal prison.
Claude Augé, creator of the "Petit Larousse Illustré" and the "Nouveau Larousse Illustré" (encyclopaedic dictionaries) was born in L'Isle-Jourdain! Discover the Maison Claude Augé, a listed national heritage site. This historic monument boasts stained glass windows, Art Nouveau decoration and a marble fireplace. Tours are available on Saturday mornings at 10am.
