Tourism / Discovery
Located 25 km from Alençon, Le Mêle-sur-Sarthe is at the heart of the Normandie-Maine Regional Park. This preserved environment became a UNESCO Global Geopark in 2023. This exceptional label proves the importance of the region’s natural and cultural heritage.
The lake, located right next to the campsite, becomes an outdoor activity centre during the two summer months, offering a wide range of activities: supervised swimming, pedal boats, fishing, miniature golf, children's play area, picnic area, snack bar, windsurfing...
All year round, a footpath leads around the lake, allowing visitors to discover the unspoilt nature of the Pays Mêlois. Le Mêle-sur-Sarthe is on the Véloscénie itinerary, a cycle path linking Paris to Mont-Saint-Michel via an old railway line.
Ideally situated between the hills of the Perche and the plain of the Pays d'Alençon, the village enjoys an abundance of natural beauty and a heritage that has been enhanced by a number of tourist labels, including ‘Villes et Villages Fleuris’ (Towns and Villages in Bloom), ‘Villages Étapes’ (Stopover Villages) and ‘Natura 2000’.
A City Parc is located in the centre of the town and offers fun outdoor activities for all the family: playground, table tennis, game court (basketball, handball, football), skatepark and boules pitch.
Discover local history and traditions! The Percheron foal has been considered a mythical animal in the region for almost 150 years. With this symbol firmly established, the town organises a major event to highlight the legend: la Foire aux Poulains (the Foal Fair). The event takes place on the last Saturday in November and is the most important Percheron gathering in France.
