The Souillac site is 200m from the River Dordogne and 5 minutes from local shops

Souillac is in the Lot Department in Occitania. The town is rooted in the heart of the Dordogne valley. It is very close to Rocamadour. This classed as a "Grand Site" of the Midi Pyrénées has been a landmark of Christianity since the Middle Ages.

When you stay in Souillac, you are close to a number of caves, castles, museums and some of « France's Most Beautiful Villages ».

In the Dordogne, Souillac is nicknamed « the town of contrasts » because the scenery alternates between the river and old stones. It's also the town of the 7 viaducts. They remind us of the many valleys in the area.

If you want to enjoy unspoilt nature, this is the destination for you.

  • Saint-Martin Church, its imposing belfry is now used as a bell tower
  • You can contemplate several medieval buildings in Halle street
  • Sainte-Marie Abbey, a good example of Roman architecture

Souillac Tourism

A large flat and well laid out aire. Can accommodate large vehicles. Good service point. Entrance and exit are separate. Be careful when exiting as satnav wants you to turn right to go back up into town. A large boulder beside the exit didn’t allow us to make the right turn in our 9m van. We turned left and found a carpark to turn around and go back but when we approached the junction a man told us we should not exit that way – so turn left and wait for satnav to recalculate the route. Better signage at the exit required to show the correct route on exiting. The town is lovely with old narrow streets lined with stone and timber buildings. There is an abbey and church with Roman origins and they are well worth a visit.
